What is starrcade 1997?

Starrcade 1997 was the fifteenth annual Starrcade professional wrestling pay-per-view (PPV) event produced by World Championship Wrestling (WCW). It took place on December 28, 1997 at the MCI Center in Washington, D.C.

The main event of Starrcade 1997 was a highly anticipated match between Hollywood Hogan and Sting for the WCW World Heavyweight Championship. The match had been building for over a year and was the culmination of the feud between Hogan's New World Order (nWo) faction and Sting, who represented WCW.

The match ended controversially when Bret Hart, who had recently joined WCW after leaving the WWE, interfered and attacked both Hogan and Sting with a steel chair. As a result, the match was ruled a no-contest and the title remained vacant.

Starrcade 1997 also featured other notable matches such as Diamond Dallas Page vs. Curt Hennig for the WCW United States Heavyweight Championship, The Steiner Brothers vs. The Outsiders for the WCW World Tag Team Championship, and more.

The event was considered a financial success, drawing a reported attendance of over 17,000 fans and generating a significant amount of revenue for WCW. However, the controversial finish to the main event was met with mixed reactions from fans and critics.
